About me

I am an experienced BSL Interpreter with 20 years in the profession. I have worked across a wide range of domains as a freelance interpreter, with particular specialisms in Social Services, Video Relay Services, Community and Performance Interpreting. I qualified as a professional Supervisor in 2024.

Alongside my interpreting work, I am the Director of Performance Interpreting Ltd, where I manage and support over 400 freelance interpreters and office staff. This role has given me extensive experience in professionalism, people management, ethical decision-making, and navigating the complexities of working in high-pressure, people-facing environments.

I am also a mother to a young son, and I live with a unilateral hearing loss, being completely deaf in my left ear. This means I experience access barriers daily and live between Deaf and hearing worlds depending on the environment I am in. This lived experience deeply informs my practice, my empathy, and my understanding of the emotional and cognitive load that interpreters carry.

Supervision has been a vital part of my own professional journey. It has provided me with a safe, calm space away from the demands of work and home, where I can pause, reflect, and reconnect with myself as a practitioner. Through supervision, I have been able to unpack complex situations, explored ethical dilemmas, trauma, and recognised patterns in my thinking and behaviour. Just as importantly, it has helped me acknowledge and celebrate my achievements too.

I am passionate about supervision being embedded as a core and essential practice within BSL interpreting, not seen as an optional extra. Our work is emotionally demanding, often isolating, and requires us to make rapid decisions in unpredictable situations. Supervision offers a protected space to reflect, grow, and improve our practice while safeguarding our wellbeing. It supports self-care, resilience, and longevity in the profession.

My supervision style is explorative, warm, and gently challenging. I am also interested in creative supervision to meet individuals different reflective and learning styles. I aim to create a non-judgemental and confidential environment where you feel safe to speak openly about your work, your worries, and your successes. Together, we will explore not only what is happening in your work, but also the thoughts, feelings, values, and expectations that shape your decisions. Supervision can uncover new perspectives, help you see things you may not have considered before, and support you in working in ways that feel ethical, intentional, and sustainable.

I offer 1:1 supervision sessions, both online and in person where possible, and a free introductory session to allow us to explore what you are looking for and whether we are the right fit.

Supervision is a space to pause, breathe, reflect, and grow. It is a place to process the emotional impact of our work, address vicarious trauma, strengthen self-care, and reconnect with why we do this work. My aim is to offer you the kind of supervision space that has been so transformative in my own career, supportive, reflective, and rooted in trust.
